A leading, established full service public accounting firm is seeking a Tax Supervisor to join their tax practice. This Tax Senior can be either a 100% remote opportunity or located in San Diego, CA or Los Angeles, CA.
Remote work is permitted in the following states: California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
Responsibilities:
- Review advanced tax returns (C-Corp, S-Corp, Partnership, Trust, Non-Profit, and Individual).
- Review and supervise bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
- Oversee tax planning for corporations and individuals.
- Perform tax audit representation and technical tax research.
- Prepare specialized tax filings (Estate, partnership allocations, stock sales, ownership changes).
- Manage workflow distribution, scheduling, and control lists to ensure timely filings.
- Train and mentor staff, seniors, and interns; provide ongoing feedback and participate in evaluations.
- Develop and refine firm processes and procedures; set professional and leadership standards.
- Lead internal training sessions, meetings, and recruitment events.
- Participate in client service meetings, support business development through networking and marketing.
- Assist in billing processes by analyzing WIP and contributing to invoice generation.
For background check purposes, material duties of this position include reviewing and approving complex tax returns, advising clients on tax planning, and representing them in audits.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA or EA license.
- 4 years of prior tax experience in public accounting.
- Prior experience servicing real estate or professional services clientele.
- Ability to work 55+ hours per week during tax season.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience reviewing a variety of tax forms including 1099s, sales tax returns, Business Property Statements, Business Licenses, and specialized filings (POL, PAC, LM2).
- Proficient with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Accounting CS, Prosystems Engagement, T-value, CCH Axcess, CFS, AME
- Knowledge of entity setup, formation and dissolution, retirement plans, foreign entity reporting, 1031 exchanges, multistate and foreign returns, specialized tax credits.
- Familiarity with Checkpoint Tools and other tax research platforms.
- Leadership training and participation in continuing education programs.
- Ability to develop expertise in specific industries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Non-base compensation: Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, dependent upon performance.
