A leading, established full service public accounting firm is seeking a Tax Manager to join their tax practice. This Tax Manager can be either a 100% remote opportunity or located in San Diego, CA or Los Angeles, CA.

Remote work is permitted in the following states: California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. 

Responsibilities:

  • Meet monthly and annual charge hour targets, analyzing staff hour reports for performance evaluation.
  • Review various financial documents, including Form 1099s, Payroll Tax Returns, Sales Tax Returns, Business Property Statements, and Business Licenses.
  • Assess a range of tax returns, such as C-Corporation, Partnership, S-Corporation, Personal, Non-Profit, and Trust tax filings.
  • Provide oversight for Corporate and Personal tax planning, including specialized areas like Estate tax planning, partnership allocations, stock sales, and ownership changes.
  • Represent clients in tax audits and demonstrate proficiency in conducting intermediate technical research for issue resolution.
  • Actively participate in manager meetings and serve on committees as assigned.
  • Lead staff meetings, evaluations, and weekly scheduling management meetings, contributing to the mentoring program.
  • Conduct weekly check-in meetings with assigned staff, efficiently managing supervisor, senior, and staff workflows.
  • Develop and implement firm processes, set professional conduct standards, and lead by example for seniors and staff.
  • Conduct in-house training, meetings, and provide personalized feedback to staff.
  • Contribute to firm recruiting events, participate in intern selection, training, and feedback processes.
  • Assist in the billing process by analyzing Work in Progress (WIP) and determining invoice totals.
  • Lead client services meetings and actively engage in networking and marketing initiatives to develop new business opportunities.

For background check purposes, material duties of this position include financial and business document review, tax return evaluation, corporate and personal tax planning initiative oversight, tax audit assistance, developing professional conduct standards, billing process assistance, and client communications regarding confidential tax matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • CPA or EA (Enrolled Agent) license. 
  • 6 years of prior tax experience, including supervisory. 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes 55+ hours a week during tax season.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand schedules of tax forms, entity type setup, formation and dissolution, retirement plan options, foreign entity reporting, section 1031 exchanges, basic foreign/multistate returns, POL, PAC and LM2 tax returns and specialized tax credits.
  • Ability to develop specialized knowledge in a specific industry.
  • Ability to participate in advanced continued education as well as leadership and management training.
  • Be familiar with Accounting related software, such as CFS, QuickBooks, T-value, Adobe Acrobat, Access Tax, Engagement, CCH Workstream.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and collaborate with staff.

Salary Range: $125,000 – $145,000* 

*The above represents the lowest to highest expected salary range for this job opening. Our client may pay more or less than the posted salary range, and the salary range may be modified in the future. Our client will consider job-related factors including, but not limited to, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs when determining pay.

Non-base compensation: Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, dependent upon performance. 

Benefits: Employees  are covered by medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in the company’s 401k plan. Employees will also accrue 4+ weeks of time off annually and receive paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
