We’ve teamed up with a well-esteemed San Diego company in their search for a Controller. As the Controller, you will provide leadership, guidance, and managerial oversight to dynamic accounting and tax departments. This role has direct supervisory duties and the successful candidate is a proven leader who excels in team management, cross-department collaboration, problem-solving, and adapting to changing priorities.

Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight, leadership, and direction to the accounting and tax departments.
- Ensure effective staffing, training, and workflow management across accounting and tax departments.
- Identify resource needs and implement operational improvements.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and systems to ensure GAAP compliance.
- Oversee corporate financials, forecasting, and ensure timely completion of internal and external reporting deadlines.
- Analyze and resolve non-routine accounting transactions.
- Manage the treasury team and implement best practices to optimize cash flow and financial management.
- Work closely with the tax department to ensure accurate and timely year-end financial preparation for third-party review.
- Enhance tax department workflow processes for improved efficiency.
- Collaborate with the CFO on company-wide financial strategy and initiatives.
- Review and complete Joint Venture documents, focusing on capitalization, accounting, and tax considerations.
- Support ad hoc projects as assigned by the CFO and upper management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10 years of accounting experience, including managerial.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- CPA designation (active or inactive).
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with an accounting emphasis; Master’s degree a plus.
- Experience with partnership tax returns and Schedules K-1.
- Proficient in mid-tier ERP, such as NetSuite, MS Dynamics 365, Sage, Yardi.
- Strong knowledge of accounting processes and procedures.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally.
