We are actively in search of a Controller to immediately contribute to our client’s team. This Controller position offers an inclusive and collaborative work environment, in addition to the flexibility of a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the accounting team
- Oversee financial reporting, including monthly reviews of financial statements, journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Prepare variance reports for budget vs. actual performance and assist with board reporting
- Coordinate and manage the year-end audit and tax return process, including consolidated financial audits and property tax audits.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP standards, maintaining adherence to internal controls
- Prepare cash projections, re-forecasts, and manage cash flow audits
- Support property budgets and manage the budgeting process
- Recommend and implement financial systems, including bank account setup and cash management procedures
- Establish relationships with 3rd-party management companies and work collaboratively with asset management and development teams
- Provide financial data to support asset financing, debt refinancing, and property sales
- Review legal documents to ensure accounting accuracy for joint ventures, investments, loans, leases, vendor agreements, and tax credit transactions
- Assist the VP of Finance in setting goals and performance action plans for development accountants
- Oversee cost certifications and project conversions upon completion
- Manage ad hoc projects as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
- 5 years prior real estate accounting experience, with at least 2 years of experience in a leadership capacity
- Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Proficient in Yardi
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting and job costing
- Knowledge of real estate accounting practices pertaining to operating properties and construction/development
- Ability to manage an accounting staff and department function
- Ability to set and manage multiple priorities in growing environment
- Ability to establish relationships with 3rd party management company and internal departments
- Excellent interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other department heads, and other business stakeholders
Salary Range: $130,000 – $180,000*
