We are looking for a Tax Supervisor or Manager for our public accounting client in San Diego. In this role, you will oversee complex tax return preparation, provide technical tax research, and manage client relationships. You will supervise and mentor staff, ensure tax compliance, and help drive business development initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional with a strong background in public accounting to take on leadership responsibilities and contribute to firm growth.
Responsibilities:
- Review complex tax returns for Individuals, Estates and Trusts, Partnerships, S Corporations, and other business entities, including multi-state filings.
- Conduct technical tax research and stay current on tax laws and regulations.
- Respond to inquiries from the IRS, state, and other tax authorities.
- Manage the scope of engagements, including budgeting, scheduling, and meeting deadlines.
- Monitor compliance with due dates and manage work within time budgets.
- Supervise and assign duties to staff, ensuring quality work and meeting client expectations.
- Mentor and coach staff members in their professional development.
- Supervise multiple engagements simultaneously, maintaining effective communication with both clients and internal teams.
- Directly interact with Partners and Clients, building strong relationships.
- Play a key role in business development by generating leads, expanding services to existing clients, and networking within the community.
- Assist with client billing and ensuring the profitability of engagements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 4 years of tax experience in public accounting.
- Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Taxation.
- CPA License required (Supervisor – preferred; Manager – required).
- Real estate taxation industry experience.
- Experience with ProSystem fx or CCH Axcess software.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising and mentoring staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team environment.
Salary Range: $100,000 – $150,000*
